Work from Home: 5 Tips for Designing your Home Office | Rugs.Shop

Working from home has been a major piece of life, lately. By now you’ve likely had a space set up at home that gets the job done.  If you’re looking to move that space or give it a makeover, here are 5 tips to keep in mind when designing your home office space that I’ve found have helped with my transition.

Tips for Designing your Home Office Space

1. Location, location, location!

It’s important to make sure you have plenty of space, maybe a view and somewhere well lit, if you can. For many folks, you don’t have an extra bedroom or den space to set up an office.  So, when I started working from home, I set myself up in our master bedroom. I temporarily removed my nightstand and replaced it with a budget friendly desk with two drawers, from Target, and placed it in front of the window, next to my bedside. I now have a window view and a nightstand.  The natural light is a must have for me personally and view of the outdoors is key for a good day’s work!  If you can avoid staring at a blank wall, I highly recommend it.

If you are in a space that doesn’t provide the amount of natural light that you’re looking for, at least refresh your wall color with a something that is calming and inspiring to you.  Or if you really want to dress it up, pick out a new wall decal.

3.   Create Boundaries with a Rug

An area rug is a great way to create an area, borders, a new space.  If you’re like me and you have a corner that you’re trying to mark as your own, maybe a cheetah print throw rug or a bold bright Justina Blakeney would do the trick. Plus, if you end up keeping your wall paint color simple and neutral, adding a fun color area rug or bold print area rug to your space is the way to go.

Take time to add in the small but cherished details to your home office.  Artwork your children created, a framed photo of your loved ones or furry friends, an inspirational sign with a quote, a lamp, or maybe even a candle.  Make that space yours, even if it is temporary.  Remember, just nothing to distracting!

5.    Get Organized

Since most home offices do not provide a ton of space, it’s important to have a drawer or storage cube that you can store papers, pens, extra cords or whatever else you’d rather not have out on your desktop after a workday is done.
